What is the Best Duration to List on EBay Auctions?
EBay offers 4 different durations when listing auctions. There is a 1-day listing, 3 day listing, 5-day listing, 7 day listing, and a 10 day listing option. I would use the 1-day listing option only if I think my product is most popular.
You can find the most popular searches on eBay by going to
buy.ebay.com/
pulse.ebay.com/
Latest digital camera, and gadgets are items fit to go on a 1 day auction.
If your product do not fall under this category the options left are 3 day, 5 day, 7 day and 10 day.
If you list your product on a longer duration, your item will be at the bottom of the list for searches.
How many times you have searched for an item and did not go beyond first two pages of search results. Most users do not go beyond the first 2 pages of search results and people do not even see the listing until they are one or two days from auction endings.
So what is the point in listing an auction for 10 days? You may argue that what if I list it for 3 days and there are no bids, I am losing out that extra 7 days which your item can be on eBay without any extra fees.
I will show you a neat trick where you can avoid extra listing fees and still be on top of searches for all the 10 days. List your item for 3 days initially and just before 12 hours from auction end, check your auction. If it does not have any bids, revise the item and make it 5 days. Do the same again and revise it to 7 days and 10 days.
There is no additional fee incurred to revise the auction and your item stays at top of searches all the time and you have more chances of people seeing your auctions and bidding on them.
The down side of this technique is you do not have control of auction end dates, because once someone bids on your auctions you cannot revise it further. You still can control your auction end timings if it is of some consolation because auction end times solely depend on auction start times. In my opinion being on top of searches and more people views on my auction far outweighs the small discomfort of auction end dates.
Each auction needs to be revised 3 times. It can be very tedious. If you are a big time seller who has more than 10 items ending each day, this process of revision can be very time consuming. I will teach you a nice way to revise 100s of auctions in a short time in the next part of our tutorial.
