GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE, SOLD! Welcome to the world of Auctions, One of the oldest processes of buying and selling in the world. It originates from the Latin word “autico” which means, to increase. The Webster’s dictionary defines auction as “public sale of the items to the highest bidder.” According to history the oldest recorded Auctions took place in Babylon in 500BC! These auctions were an annual event where women were sold for marriage, the beautiful ones would get the highest bids and the unfortunate ones had to pay a dowry to enter the bidding and thus would not fetch a good price. This was the only legal way of getting married!

EBay – How It Came About

The internet is not all about eBay, but that will be very hard to prove to some people. The auction site is the main and sometimes only destination for online shoppers these days, and you tell me this is not staggering if i tell you the site is adding to its online customer base everyday.

EBay was founded by Pierre Omidyar a Paris native in his San Jose living room back in September 1995. It was from the beginning meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services to individuals, which to some extent, is still is today.

The Power of the Misspell !! Find Misspelled Auctions!!

Anybody looking for a 1976 Nolan Ryan basball card? How about a pair of stirling silver demitasse spoons in your grandmother's pattern?

The last time I checked, you can find them on eBay, along with a number of basball caps and other misspelled items. Believe it or not, some people still don't know how to spell check. But, bless their little misspelled harts, because you can use their errors to profit on eBay.

Every day items go up for auction with typos and misspells in the titles. The problem is that a large number of people search for items to buy using the search box, not browsing through the category listings. Therefore, the misspelled items are the ones that usually don't fetch the bids they deserve because they're not getting traffic. Sometimes you can pick these items up for a song. And, once you're done singing what can you do? Resell the item on eBay, properly spelled of course, for quite a nice profit.

Safe Trading on eBay: Avoiding Fraud for Buyers & Sellers

Turn on CNN or Fox News, read a column on the Internet or play your favorite all news radio station an you'll become acutely aware of the "so-called" fraud online - specifically related to eBay.

Definition of Fraud: "In a broad strokes definition, fraud is a deliberate misrepresentation which causes another person to suffer damages, usually monetary losses."

Like many, I have had negative experiences one eBay. However, I've also had negative experiences with unscrupulous people in the real world. The truth is that eBay is just a microcosm of real-life society where 99.9% of people are good nature.

In fact, online auctions have changed the way consumers shop for jewelry. Where else can consumers find top graded gems and finished jewelry products for just pennies on the dollar?

Did You Buy Stolen Merchandise Online?

By popular request (a slew of emails), we'll now discuss how buyers can avoid receiving stolen, "pirated," or "bootlegged" merchandise via online auction sites.

Nobody wants to knowingly receive stolen merchandise and the following tips should help you avoid trouble.

Digital downloads such as ebooks, MP3 audio files, and software represent the easiest products to sell illegally on an auction site.

The seller obtains a copy of the file, puts up an auction listing, and then delivers the file to the successful bidder(s) via email or website download.

Because it's so easy, that's where many people start their lives of online crime.

Don't you love gadgets, especially the new fangled ones. If you are like me and you strive to take ownership of the latest and greatest, then this article is for you - because I will save you a bunch of money which can then be safely applied to ... even more gadgets. From satellite receivers to universal remotes, there is a constant barrage of new releases. Now any self respecting gadget addict will understand that yesterdays gizmo's is destined for the trash heap as soon as release 3.0 hits the streets. Of course for the savvy shopper release 2.0 offers unique buying opportunities. Purchasing the one generation before often yields even more fun and stimulation. Since bugs have been removed, geeky hacks have been introduced and generally you can have more fun and be rather more ruthless with the little device.
